Update: News About HopeSchool

Hopeschool Project Updated

History - Established in 2006, the Congo Hope School (L’Ecole D’Espoir) now encompasses more than 550 orphans from ages 6-18.  With help from organizations such as the American School of Kinshasa (TASOK), various embassies, and the United Nations, Hope School makes education accessible to numerous orphans who lacked such opportunities beforehand. Not only does the school pay for students’ tuitions, but it also provides students with meals and supplies so that they can fully concentrate on attending school. The school also focuses on arranging trips for students to local businesses, embassies, UN in order to demonstrate the bright future they can obtain.  Under the motto “what we can dream, we can achieve,” the Congo Hope School Foundation has been teaching its students to keep their hopes alive regardless of various hardships placed in their lives... Mission - Our involvement in Congo Hope School started from its planning stages. Alice Zhang is the founder of the NGO and has witnessed every step of Congo Hope School Foundation’s development. Through endless efforts and devotion she put into the Hope School, Alice was able to establish the miracles we see today. Although the rest of the members got involved in this project later, our passion and devotion in the Hope School is nonetheless profound. As students living in New York City, we are fully aware of globalization and are determined to help those who are less fortunate than we are. With help of other students in Columbia University, we have started a team at Columbia University devoted to this cause and to increase the awareness of the future of Hope School. We are planning to hold various fundraisers to enable more children to obtain education that they all deserve. This effort will help to raise funds necessary to sustain and develop the Congo Hope School Foundation and for us to maintain close connection with the headquarters in Kinshasa. The organization is focused on giving back to the community that donates to its cause in New York. With our newly created letter exchange program between students from the Congo Hope School in Kinshasa and students from schools in the US, we hope to provide a more profound cultural exchange.
